What to Expect at the Lodi MVC Road Test

The Bergen County road test runs from Lodi. Here's how the day works and how to prepare.

For most of Bergen County, the road test is given at the Lodi MVC road test center. Knowing exactly where it is, what to bring, and how the test runs takes a lot of the nerves out of test day.

The basics

Where: Lodi MVC road test center, 8 Mill St (off Garibaldi Ave), Lodi, NJ 07644.
When: Weekdays, by appointment only — booked through the NJ MVC. Hours can change, so confirm when you book.
Arrive: about 15–30 minutes early to check in.

What to bring

What the test covers

An examiner rides along and scores how you handle real driving: smooth starting and stopping, observation and mirror and shoulder checks, signaling, lane control, intersections and turns, and a parking maneuver — usually parallel parking, and sometimes a K-turn (three-point turn). See the full breakdown in what you're scored on and how to pass.

The Lodi advantage

Because the test runs on the streets around the Mill Street center, practicing that specific area is a real edge. We train students on the actual route — the turns, the stop signs, and the parking setup — so nothing on test day is unfamiliar. Drivers from nearby Lodi, Garfield, Maywood, Saddle Brook, and Elmwood Park have an especially short trip.

After you pass

You'll receive a probationary license and must follow the GDL restrictions — red decals, the night curfew, passenger limits, and no phone use. If you don't pass the first time, you can retake the test after a short waiting period; practicing the exact route makes a real difference the second time around.

Pass-rate tip

The two most common stumbles are parallel parking and incomplete observation (mirror and shoulder checks). Drill both before the exam, and make your checks obvious so the examiner can clearly see them.
